Rupert Mitford, 6th Baron Redesdale

Rupert Mitford, 6th Baron Redesdale (born July 18, 1967) is a British peer and politician. He currently sits in the House of Lords as a life peer, Baron Mitford with the Liberal Democrats.

Mitford succeeded to the title in 1991. He is known for his charity, the Red Squirrel Protection Partnership which seeks to control grey squirrel numbers in the UK and so reverse the decline in the numbers of red squirrels.[1] Mitford sits in the House of Lords as a working peer for the Liberal Democrats.[2] He is the Liberal Democrat spokesman for the environment in the House of Lords [3] After the House of Lords Act 1999 and the removal of the right of hereditary peers to sit automatically in the House of Lords, he was given a life peerage as Baron Mitford, of Redesdale, in the County of Northumberland on 18 April 2000 to retain his seat.[4] Lord Redesdale currently chairs the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association[5] and the All Party Parliamentary Archaeology Group.[6]
